Op 7 februari organiseert Obama daarom in zijn ambstwoning de
tweede White House Science Fair. Daar wil de president doorgaan met
"celebrating the student winners of a broad range of science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions from across
the country."
Obama zal bij die gelegenheid ook nieuwe beleidsinitiatieven
aankondigen om bètatech talent impulsen te geven, of te wel "key
steps that the Administration and its partners are taking to help
more students excel in math and science, and earn degrees in these
subjects."
In 2010 al gastheer voor bèta-talent
De Amerikaanse president was al gastheer tijdens de allereerste
White House Science Fair eind 2010. Daarmee kwam hij een belofte na
die hij deed bij de lancering van zijn 'Educate to Innovate'
campagne om studenten te inspireren tot bèta-excellentie. Toen zei
Obama: "If you win the NCAA championship, you come to the White
House. Well, if you're a young person and you produce the best
experiment or design, the best hardware or software, you ought to
be recognized for that achievement, too."
Volgend op deze bijeenkomst had Obama onder meer een ontmoeting
met de drie jonge vrouwen die de Google Science Fair wonnen en het
'student robotics team'. Ook bracht hij een bliksembezoek aan de
New York City Science Fair.
