Een serie universiteiten slaat de handen ineen om volledig
kosteloos de beste curricula online open te stellen. Stanford,
University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, en
Princeton trekken nu samen op. U kunt dus straks gratis

Studies!
Stanford nam het initiatief tot de oprichting van een nieuw consortium Coursera. Op Silicon Valley
haalde men miljoenen op van investeerders die de start mogelijk
maken. De toekomstvisie van de nieuwe alliantie is even helder
als revolutionair.
Iedereen wereldklasse HO

Interactief rijk aan feedback

Harvard en MIT zijn met vergelijkbare initiatieven bezig. Zij
hebben edX opgericht. De eerste cursus daarvan trok al 120.000
studenten wereldwijd. De inspiratiebron hiervan is het pionierswerk
van het Open Course Ware Consortium, dat vanuit MIT is opgezet en
nu voorgezeten wordt door Anka Mulder van de TU Delft.
Zwemmen of verzuipen
Stanford-president John Hennessy zegt over deze
revolutie: "There's a tsunami coming." Een van zijn hoogleraren die
tot de oprichters van Coursera gerkend wordt, zegt het nog wat
harder: "The tsunami is coming whether we like it or not. You can
be crushed or you can surf and it is better to surf."
Uit de eerste cijfers blijkt dat 60 tot 67% van de studenten aan
deze 'MOOC' - massive open online courses - van buiten de USA
komen. Opvallend veel deelnemers zijn LLL-studenten die hun
opleidingen willen opwaarderen in het kader van hun
loopbaanontwikkeling. Daarnaast benutten studenten dit om minoren
te doen die hun eigen HO-instelling niet kan bieden.
