Op bezoek in zijn geboorteland werd prof. Aleksei Pikulik begin april onderweg aangehouden, verdacht van vervalsing van documenten en vechten op straat. Zijn instituut, het Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies in Vilnius (veel kritische academische instituten zijn Wit-Rusland uitgevlucht), laat in een verklaring weten hoe op deze aanhouding recentelijk een veroordeling volgde:
'The trial took place today in Minsk's Tsentralny District Court. The judge brought in the verdict of five days of arrest. Aleksei did not plead guilty and will appeal against this judgment. Aleksei, the BISS academic director and professor of European University at Saint Petersburg, was detained on 31 May at around 18:00 near his home. He spent the night in Okrestina Street Pre-trial Isolation Facility.
On 6 April, the police confiscated Aleksei Pikulik's passport. On that day, his car was stopped by road police officers, who demanded that he accompany them to the Tsentralny District office for identification. The BISS academic director was suspected of having been involved in a fight and document forgery, which is why the documents were confiscated.'
