Sax and the City

When Bill Clinton will visit Europe next week for the worldconference of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative for major harbors around the globe, he will receive quite a surprise: a course in livelonglearning from artsschool Codarts. How about a masterclass in playing the saxophone?

Artsschool Codarts will bring a rich musical programme in the confernce and around its sessions. With its specialisms in worldmusic and jazz, as well as modern dance, this will fit very well in a global meeting of climateconscious port-cities.

One of the great talents on the alto-saxophone, Codarts-student Jasper van Damme, will lay during the congress. At 20 he has already performed twice at North Sea Jazz and traveled along festivals in germany France, Italy and the Benelux. As a winner at the Princess Christina Competition 2006 he earned a studytour to New York city. May 2008 he won again: now to become a performer at carnegie hall.

So, we at ScienceGuide do envisage by now a jamsession of the two jazzwizards from Arkansas and Rotterdam after that masterclass. How about an ‘Obama Jive’ together, after a solo in ‘Hillary’s Blues’?
