Washington energiek door studenten

De studenten die deelnemen aan de Solar Decathlon hebben deopdracht het huis te ontwerpen dat het meest efficiënt gebruikmaakt van zonne-energie. “This is a unique student competition onthe National Mall that showcases the latest energy efficiency andsolar power technologies. It is a great chance to see studentspushing the boundaries of what’s possible today”, aldus Chu.

Tot vreugde van Chu hebben bijna 1000 studenten van 20universiteiten zich ingeschreven voor de wedstrijd. “I’ve alreadymet several of them, and they are an incredible group. Over thenext ten days, they’ll test the efficiency and performance of theirhomes in ten contests [vandaar “Decathlon”] that simulate realworld use. They’ll do laundry, cook, and watch TV, just like in anyother family home – but all of the electricity and hot water willbe generated using the sun.”
