Witte Huis Bèta-Feest

2 februari 2012 | Obama zet niet alleen sportsterren in het zonnetje. Nadrukkelijk wil hij studenten die uitzonderlijk presteren evenzeer erkenning geven op het Witte Huis. “If you're a young person and you produce the best experiment or design, the best hardware or software, you ought to be recognized for that achievement, too.”

Op 7 februari organiseert Obama daarom in zijn ambstwoning detweede White House Science Fair. Daar wil de president doorgaan met”celebrating the student winners of a broad range of science,technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions from acrossthe country.”

Obama zal bij die gelegenheid ook nieuwe beleidsinitiatievenaankondigen om bètatech talent impulsen te geven, of te wel “keysteps that the Administration and its partners are taking to helpmore students excel in math and science, and earn degrees in thesesubjects.”

In 2010 al gastheer voor bèta-talent

De Amerikaanse president was al gastheer tijdens de allereersteWhite House Science Fair eind 2010. Daarmee kwam hij een belofte nadie hij deed bij de lancering van zijn ‘Educate to Innovate’campagne om studenten te inspireren tot bèta-excellentie. Toen zeiObama: “If you win the NCAA championship, you come to the WhiteHouse. Well, if you’re a young person and you produce the bestexperiment or design, the best hardware or software, you ought tobe recognized for that achievement, too.”

Volgend op deze bijeenkomst had Obama onder meer een ontmoetingmet de drie jonge vrouwen die de Google Science Fair wonnen en het’student robotics team’. Ook bracht hij een bliksembezoek aan deNew York City Science Fair.
