Repressie Belarus houdt aan
Op bezoek in zijn geboorteland werd prof. Aleksei Pikulik beginapril onderweg aangehouden, verdacht van vervalsing van documentenen vechten op straat. Zijn instituut, het Belarusian Institutefor Strategic Studies in Vilnius (veel kritische academischeinstituten zijn Wit-Rusland uitgevlucht), laat in een verklaringweten hoe op deze aanhouding recentelijk een veroordelingvolgde:
‘The trial took place today in Minsk’s Tsentralny DistrictCourt. The judge brought in the verdict of five days of arrest.Aleksei did not plead guilty and will appeal against this judgment.Aleksei, the BISS academic director and professor of EuropeanUniversity at Saint Petersburg, was detained on 31 May at around18:00 near his home. He spent the night in Okrestina StreetPre-trial Isolation Facility.
On 6 April, the police confiscated Aleksei Pikulik’s passport.On that day, his car was stopped by road police officers, whodemanded that he accompany them to the Tsentralny District officefor identification. The BISS academic director was suspected ofhaving been involved in a fight and document forgery, which is whythe documents were confiscated.’
