8 augustus 2012 | President Obama is trots op Curiosity en noemt deze "an unprecedented feat of technology that will stand as a point of national pride far into the future." En hij trekt een wezenlijke conclusie voor zijn strategie van 'Amerika Kennisland'.

In een eerste reactie zegt de president uiteraard, dat hij fieris op de technologische prestatie van zijn landgenoten van de NASA.”The successful landing of Curiosity – the most sophisticated rovinglaboratory ever to land on another planet – marks an unprecedentedfeat of technology that will stand as a point of national pride farinto the future. It proves that even the longest of odds are nomatch for our unique blend of ingenuity and determination.”

“Invest wisely”

Obama wijst er op, dat een gecompliceerd instrument als denieuwe Marsbuggy alleen mogelijk is door de nadruk op een groterepartnerschap tussen bedrijven en de wetenschappers van NASA.”Tonight’s success, delivered by NASA, parallels our major stepsforward towards a vision for a new partnership with Americancompanies to send American astronauts into space on Americanspacecraft. That partnership will save taxpayer dollars whileallowing NASA to do what it has always done best – push the veryboundaries of human knowledge.”

Bovendien wijst hij er op, dat Curiosity tot stand kon komendankzij een scherpe visie op kennisinvesteringen en hun samenhang.Het gaat hem er om, dat zijn land “wisely” moet blijven investerenin “innovation, technology and basic research.” Hij zei datzo: “And tonight’s success reminds us that our preeminence -not just in space, but here on Earth – depends on continuing toinvest wisely in the innovation, technology, and basic researchthat has always made our economy the envy of the world.”
