Tech and education in dialogue

4 augustus 2015 | While education is still seen as a public good in many countries, a large industry of educational services and technologies is on the rise. The OECD wants to bring these worlds together in a dialogue in October in Helsinki.

The summit, an initiative from the state of Finland, the European Commission and the OECD will take place on the 19th and 20th of October in Helsinki. Here the prominent figures from both worlds will meet and discuss the most important topics, like the importance of 21th century skills in the future of education. One of them is Tibor Navracsics, the Commissioner who is responsible for education.

“This summit will be a platform This summit will be a platform to bring together ministers of education, innovators and leaders of the private sector industries to discuss and engage in issues about education and strategies for innovation,” says OECD-chief Dirk van Damme. He is one of the promotors of the upcoming event.  

According to Van Damme, the summit should investigate to what extent the possibilities of educational innovation will contribute to a higher quality in edcucation. “The idea is to foster an ecosystem in education, to explore the opportunities in teaching and learning, and tot discuss the framework conditions for innovation in education.”

The summit will be attended by politicians from the EU and OECD countries, hosted by Finland. They will be joined by keyfigures from Microsoft, Harvard as well as the Education World Forum, Cellcove and many other organizations and enterprises which play a role in the development of new educational technologies.
