The Leiden Ranking 2011/2012 shows that Americanuniversities continue to dominate research at higher educationinstitutes. 18 of the first 20 places go to U.S. institutes withthe MIT, Princeton and Harvard University at the top. With ÉcolePolytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (12) and ETH Zurich (18),Switzerland places two universities in the research ranking.
The Netherlands scores quite well overall with 7universities in top 100. Only the U.S. (64) and the United Kingdom(12) have more universities represented over this range. UniversityTwente (64), Erasmus University Rotterdam (74) and VU UniversityAmsterdam (75) fare particularly well here.
